Need Advice- Christian dating Non-Christian
(23F) have been dating my boyfriend (23M) for a while now. I’m a Christian and he is not. I already know what most people are going to say — “marry within your faith,” “don’t be unequally yoked,” etc. I’ve heard it all, and I’ve even told myself those same things.
But here’s the problem: he is my person. He is kind, patient, loving, and truly one of the best humans I’ve ever met. I don’t want to lose him over religion. At the same time, my faith is important to me. One of my biggest dreams since I was little has been to get married in a church. I want that sacred moment before God. I want the blessing, the vows, the whole thing.
I’ve caught myself wishing he would convert — not necessarily because he deeply believes, but so that we could get married in church and “check that box.” And I know how wrong that sounds. I know faith isn’t supposed to be transactional or just for ceremony. I would never want to pressure him into something insincere. But I also don’t want to give up on someone I love so much.
Where I’m even more scared is about kids. Even now, we have religious disagreements that pop up occasionally. Nothing explosive, but enough to remind me we see the world differently sometimes. I have no idea how to raise children in a household where one parent is Christian and the other isn’t (or follows a different faith).
Can I baptize my child? Can they receive communion? Can I take them to church while also allowing them to go to temple or participate in his religious/cultural practices? Is that confusing for a child? Is that unfair? I don’t want to create tension, but I also don’t want to compromise something that feels foundational to me.
I feel stuck between love and faith, and I’m honestly scared of making the wrong choice. I don’t want to resent him later. I don’t want him to resent me. And I definitely don’t want future kids caught in the middle of unresolved beliefs.
Has anyone been in an interfaith relationship like this? How did you handle marriage? Kids? Did it work long term? Did someone eventually feel like they were sacrificing too much?
Please be kind — I’m not trying to disrespect my faith or his. I’m just trying to figure out how to navigate this without losing someone I deeply love or losing myself in the process.
I have a very important question :
A question that came up when we were having a discussion, he said his religion doesn't confine him saying there's only one god it says whoever it is god is one. But why is ours built like there is no god other than Jesus. His religion doesn't oppose seeking other god for help, it doesn't say you should pray only to me, it's open, whoever helps you, whoever guides you to goodness is okay to follow them. But why are we so confined, why in the first place did we get "you shall worship no other god"in our ten commandments. Why can't we be like, the other gods are also gods, atleast even if we don't worship them why can't we believe them? I hope I'm making sense
