Is this normal?

Hi all who is reading this, it might be a bit long I apologize for that.

About a year ago I (f 22) was diagnosed with POTS because of a load of symptoms I had. My team of doctors (cardiologist, neurologist, and PCP) all decided as well as myself to try to take the natural route to see if my symptoms go away without medication. Spoiler alert, it didn’t work out and I’m now on Metoprolol Tartrate because my tachycardia/adrenaline surge episodes landed me in the hospital for several days.

I’ve been on this medication as well as Pepcid for suspected acid reflux for about 2 weeks now. I take Metoprolol morning and night, and the Pepcid every morning. Everything was working fine (by fine I mean better, I still had debilitating symptoms but tried to keep it under control) until yesterday and today I had allergic reactions after eating.

I went to the hospital yet again because after I had chili fish samosas I broke out into a rash and my tongue swelled up. Thankfully my breathing was fine but I freaked out cause I’ve never had allergies ever in my life and I’ve had fish and chili tons of times. They gave me a steroid and benadryl which helped so much. This morning I had taken my metoprolol and pepcid and went about my day. I then tried to eat dinner (cheese pizza) and had the SAME reaction yet again. My mom took me to the hospital and they gave me benadryl.

Im at a loss, I don’t know what to do. I did some research and MCAS came up as a possibility but I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. I will say though, before these severe reactions, my body has always acted worse in terms of POTS symptoms after I eat. Especially stomach pains and reflux, hence why I was put on once a day Pepcid I take in the morning.

All in all i just want to see if MCAS is something I should look into or if it’s a coincidence. Thanks so much!
