Artist #37 Little Stranger

Bio from The Festival Voice

Little Stranger is the genre‑bending American alternative hip‑hop duo from Charleston, South Carolina — consisting of best friends John Shields and Kevin Shields, who both hail from Philadelphia — whose meticulously crafted fusion of indie aesthetics, hip‑hop cadence, reggae pulse, and melodic pop deftly blurs conventional genre lines into a uniquely vibrant sound. Since forming in 2015 and releasing their self‑produced debut Buddha the Beast, the pair have married John’s singer‑songwriter sensibilities and textured instrumental layers with Kevin’s rapid‑fire lyrical delivery and infectious groove, resulting in dynamic tracks that range from reggae‑tinged rap to indie funk and soulful hooks. Their 2021 LP Trip Around Saturn and the 2024 follow‑up Sat Around Trippin showcase a technical command of rhythm and harmony — integrating syncopated percussion, layered guitar and keys, and collaborative vocal interplay that feels both playful and precise — while their live sets, augmented by visuals and high‑energy performance, underscore an immersive approach to contemporary alternative hip‑hop that resonates with both dance sets and deeper listening audiences.
