Where do i go after threat intel?
I have been working withint strategic threat intel in UK , and tactical for the past 8 years. Before that i worked in middle office (investment banking). I was made redundant a year and a half ago. Took me 9 months to land a job..a job that has nothing to do with my background. I am doing change management, i deal with compliance and cbest requirements, and im part of an organisation and a team where none knows what we are doing. Ive been applying non stop...I probably have sent around 1k CVs in the last 18 months.
What i hear from recruiters: cybersec roles are very few and they now tend to prefer ex military, ex mod, ex ghcq employees. So i have 0 chance of getting back into that line of cyber. My money and time wasted on education. Im now unable to land a role in my area again because there is a major shift in what they are looking for (im also european, a lot of companies (non govnmt) now want sole british passport).
The recruiters are telling me to pivot outside cyber completely cos im cooked. But at 40+ go where? I loved strategic intelligence. i love geopolitcs. They are suggesting i move to op risk or something like that, or to move outside the UK. Ive been applying to middle office and other banking roles with 0 response. How do i pivot out of this? Which areas can my experience be useful at? And if i dont have any chance landing a threat intel role, how will i land an ops risk role?
