Negotiated in Good Faith

I was watching the Collision Hub podcast yesterday and Geico’s name was mentioned (as usual). Geico management appears to be instructing the AD adjusters to write “Negotiated in Good Faith” in line notes all over the repair estimate. Common sense tells you that in order to negotiate you have to actually talk to somebody at the shop and reach an agreement. Apparently Geico has decided that by allowing $ 15.00 and 0.6 hours for scanning they have negotiated in good faith regardless of whether they have spoken with anybody at the repair shop or the third party vendor that does the scanning to verify price and availability.

Putting line notes that say “negotiated in good faith” all over a repair estimate tells everyone who reviews the estimate that the exact opposite is true. It’s sort of like when you initially meet a person who immediately boasts about their honor and integrity and you suspect that this person may actually be a thief. You are better off saying nothing at all than telling everyone how honest you are. What colossal arrogance and hubris on the part of Geico.
