The majority of christendom haven't the faintest idea of what true repentance looks like; as a consequence, most self-professed Christians have never repented, which leads to certain peril.

Repentance is a full 180-degree turn from the sin that so easily besets us. Most people are actually still in the process of repentance, becuase repentance isn't committing the sin less and less; the sin needs to stop in repentance. Repentance is not proven by a heart feeling but rather by your actions; the fruits you display determine whether you have repented.

It's extremely important you repent in full devotion to Christ in a season of Godly sorrow and a contrite heart emptied of guile and deceit, to be cleansed, forgiven, and restored.

If we do not repent, our sins will not be forgiven, and we will all likewise perish.

Luke 13:3

^(3) I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

Acts 3:19-20

^(19) Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, ^(20) that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,

Acts 26:20

20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

Matthew 3:8
^(8) Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

Acts 8:21-23
^(21) You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. ^(22) Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. ^(23) For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”

Revelation 2:19-22
^(19) “‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first. ^(20) But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. ^(21) I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. ^(22) Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works,

Notice in all these examples, the idea that a person is repentant whilst committing egregious sins is completely absent from any of these examples.

For instance, Paul stopped murdering Christians, Peter denied the Lord, and then repented; David committed adultery and murder, and then repented. In all these cases, these sins were never repeated in a revolving cycle, as many admit today.

A person who continually indulges in sins of varying degrees needs to repent and be delivered, to never commit the transgression again.

Isaiah 1:15-17

English Standard Version

15 When you spread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
17     learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow's cause.
^(18) “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
^(19) If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
^(20) but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
