Setting clear expectations during onboarding
I’m a new manager and bringing on the first hire I didn’t inherit. I want to be proactive and set clear expectations so I don’t need to correct behavior later. What are some expectations or preferences you share with your reports during onboarding that I don’t want to miss?
Examples: when you call out sick, please let me know a quick status on your projects so I can pick up and run with them if needed. If something needs to be escalated to my boss, let’s talk about it first and let me be the one to do that.
This is more setting the tone for my team and my management rather than the company’s (HR will share those). I don’t have time to be a micromanager but I also know they can’t read my mind.
