Adult family member pressured a younger relative sexually — need advice
I’m sharing this anonymously because it involves family and sensitive issues. I need advice on how to handle a situation safely.
Pata hai aaj kya hua ...i am very close to one of my cousin in my family. So some days ago , she confessed all this to me....Bohot messy thoughts ho rhe usko and even mujhe v , ki glti kiski h , kaise apne man se iss baat ko nikalu ?
This is the context.
A few months ago, a young woman in her late teens was pressured by an older male relative in his early 30s(UNMARRIED).He is highly respected in the family , educated, professional, religious, and trusted. Everyone in the family sees him as disciplined and trustworthy, so suspicion is unlikely.
At first, she tried to resist his advances, but due to the power imbalance, trust, and family dynamics, she could not fully maintain her boundaries. For about a month, he manipulated her into sexual acts, including kissing and attempted intercourse. She did not fully consent, and her discomfort was real, but the combination of curiosity, fear, and pressure complicated the situation.
Months later, when they met again, he tried to push boundaries once more, but she firmly said no this time. She did not alert anyone or create a scene because she feared family complications. She has been feeling distressed and unsafe about the situation ever since.
I want to understand both the psychology behind this and what can be done now to ensure her safety. Specifically:
- How common is it for someone with a strong social, religious, or professional image to secretly exploit trust like this?
- What are the warning signs of grooming or manipulation in family situations?
- How can she assert boundaries effectively and protect herself from further exploitation?
- If someone suspects or witnesses this behavior, what is the safest and most effective way to respond without creating additional harm?
I don’t want to falsely accuse anyone, but I also don’t want to ignore a potentially serious and harmful situation. Any advice, resources, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
