Why I think a Chuck movie is a horrible idea

[SPOILERS]

While I love the characters, any chance for a satisfying Chuck movie are long gone.

Consider:

  1. Either Sarah got her memory back at some point, or she hasn’t.

1a) if she has - then what’s the movie about? They get pulled back into service of the CIA? In which case, there have been some pretty good films that had couples as spies. But usually there’s tension of working on opposite sides of the conflict - and that doesn’t exist here. At best, it’s a spy kids clone.

1b) If she hasn’t, there’s just sadness or boring. Either she:

1b1) Fell in love with Chuck a second time before the film. Ok - great! - but what’s the film then? seeing them in one more mission - yawn. Seeing their kids in a mission - ugh. Sure - Sarah recovering 5 years of memories is nice, but this is a life enriching event, not life changing, in this scenario.

1b2) Didn’t fall in love again after so much time. So one day she realizes “ wow - I really loved him ~15 years ago and I now remember that feeling!” But - all this time has gone by, when she _didn’t_ fall in love with Chuck again. Both Chuck and she have lived a bunch of life since then. And there was no second falling in love. A mature viewpoint either of them might take is “I loved them once but I didn’t fall in love again. And we tried. But no spark. I guess our love required the specific circumstances of that time to be kindled. _And not falling in love again means that once those circumstances ended, they likely would have drifted apart even if she never lost her memory in the first place._

So - no good movie at this point no matter what. If the film was a tv movie done the year after the series ended, then the recovery of recent memories might have brought them back together.
