R Ashwin praises Sanju Samson’s fearless intent but regrets his missed centuries in the T20 World Cup
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared an interesting perspective on Sanju Samson and his performances during India’s victorious run at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Ashwin said the star wicketkeeper-batter came incredibly close to achieving something special and could easily have scored three centuries in the tournament.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Ashwin pointed out that Samson nearly reached the three-figure mark against the West Indies national cricket team, England national cricket team, and New Zealand national cricket team. However, according to him, Samson chose to keep playing with attacking intent rather than slowing down to chase personal milestones.
“As an absolute lover of Sanju Samson, the cricketer and the batter, there should have been three centuries,” Ashwin said. “97 not out, I understand; it is possible that I can be a strict South Indian daddy as well.”
Ashwin’s remarks highlight how Samson’s fearless approach played a key role in India’s success, even if it meant sacrificing individual records for the team’s cause.
