Auto or not to Auto

2nd Gen GE/GG 09-14

Key particulars: Middle Aged Dad (at least almost there, but I feel like one already), Minnesota location, car will be for daily commute 20mi 90% interstate (rarely any stop n go traffic) and kids daycare pickup.

I've been on the hunt for the perfect Fit (pun intended). I've been waiting for 2009+, 2012+ preferred and manual. Anyway, I've been mulling the idea of settling for an automatic with paddle shift obvs. It's been over 15 years since I've dailied a manual, and I do have a manual, swapped Miata for my fun car in the summer months. The more I'm waiting for the right Fit, the more I'm thinking, do I really want to daily a manual? The more I ponder on my daily commute where I do just hop in and drive, sounds appealing (yes I feel like a boring middle aged dad). And the remote start in the winter has been my norm. I know it can be done on a manual, but I have a habit of leaving it in 1st and handbrake when I'm parked with a manual; I worry about that. So I'm not sure how much of all of this is due to me getting impatient, or my middle aged ness getting to me, but what's other people's thoughts on these cars as daily commuters. The Fit for me would be a gas saver (replacing a Durango) commuter with a lot of fun for when I feel frisky and take a cloverleaf ramp a little faster than I should.

To Auto or not to Auto, that is the question.
