DmC: Devil May Cry isn't actually all that bad

Recently I've been playing through all the games for the 3rd or 4th time and I wrapped up DMC5, saw DmC was on sale and said "Fine might as well"

Honestly, it's not awful

It's cheesy, it's corny, the mischaracterisation is unholy but at it's core, I like it.

The combat is pretty fun, combos land well, the systems work and El Donte's animations are smooth, connected and flow well, the scoring/combo system is also decent, allotting higher ranks for involved gameplay that requires you to really engage with what you're given to reach higher ranks. The music slaps too, actually a really good OST. The boss fights are also pretty neat setpieces and I do like the visual design, it's a more gritty and dark feel that's less "spooky demon realm" and more "grunge demon slaying". Plus, the voice acting is solid, I like the way characters speak to each other, it feels natural and well written. While the plot is confusing at times, it does generally make sense I don't hate it.

All in all, I don't hate the game. Does it suck as a DMC title? Yeah. Does it suck as an Hack and Slash game? Not at all.
