People who don't understand the purpose of using words to differentiate letters when spelling something out over the phone

Ultra Annoyed

This one really irks me because the person on the other end is completely oblivious to the point of using a spelling system like the NATO Phonetic Alphabet. It's like they think we use words to correspond to letters as a fun little game - just pick a random quirky word haha!

I don't expect people to have memorized the NATO Phonetic Alphabet, but seriously how can people not hear the ambiguity?

Here is an illustration of the confusion caused when someone uses a word that could represent multiple different letters:

  • m as in nail
  • b as in tall
  • v as in bending
  • d as in ball
  • t as in cake

I would have been better off with just the letters and guessing. What makes this ultra annoying is that it's nearly impossible to get the person on the other end to understand why it's ambiguous.
