How does 'time to beat' vary so much between players?

Discussion

I'm genuinely curious, but how do people play games for hundreds of hours? Do you not run out of content (or, I suppose, motivation) before rolling credits?

I've seen that some people put 200 hours or more into games like Metaphor: Refantazio and Persona 5. I played these games fairly casually and avoided any major grind, but I finished them both in around 80 to 90 hours. Is it that others are taking it super slow, doing every single thing the game has to offer, or is this taking into account multiple playthroughs?

I think about this a lot - when I see people say they've spent hundreds of hours in KCD2, for example, I wonder what they're actually doing. I love that game and did as much as I could and I still finished it in around 100 hours.

Curious to hear from gamers that really put the hours into titles. I'm impressed.
