# About This Music Release

Mariah Carey is an 11-song music release by Mariah Carey. It was released on June 12, 1990 by Columbia Records. This self-titled debut album marked the explosive arrival of one of pop music's greatest vocalists, blending smooth R&B ballads, uplifting dance tracks, and gospel-infused pop. At just 20 years old, Carey co-wrote every track, showcasing her songwriting prowess alongside her extraordinary five-octave range and signature whistle notes.

The album spawned four consecutive Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles: "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday," and "I Don't Wanna Cry"—a record-tying achievement for a debut. It topped the Billboard 200 for 11 weeks (her longest run), went 9x Platinum in the US (over 15 million worldwide), and earned her GRAMMY Awards for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. Producers like Narada Michael Walden, Ric Wake, and Rhett Lawrence helped craft its polished yet soulful sound. Tracks like the emotive "Vision of Love" (often hailed as one of the best debut singles ever) and the heartfelt "Vanishing" highlight her raw talent and emotional depth. Even decades later, it remains a foundational classic in pop/R&B, proving why Carey became an instant superstar.
