If you’re only working 40 hours a week, you aren't trying hard enough.
Nobody wants to hear this, but if you are young, healthy, and complaining about being broke, look at your timesheet. 40 hours a week is the bare minimum. That pays for your survival. If you want to get ahead, save a deposit, or build wealth, what are you doing with the other 128 hours in the week?
When I wanted to buy my first section, I worked my day job, then stacked shelves at Foodtown until midnight, and mowed lawns on the weekends. I didn't see my mates for two years. Now, people work their 9-to-5, go home to watch Netflix, and wonder why they aren't getting ahead. The economy hasn't ruined your chances; your refusal to do the hard yards has. Pick up a weekend shift, put your head down, and stop expecting a comfortable life on standard hours.
