Antagonizing/ Gaslighting . My experience
Often times my father will either intentionally or unintentionally tell me things to make me question my perception of reality such as :
- after asking him how much he paid for his new phone , telling me “I’ve already told you” in a condescending and frustrated tone ( when he never told me in the first place ) . Apply this scenario to any other petty interaction similar to this . Does he really believe in his mind that I can read his thoughts? Dementia ? Can’t tell.
Or
- telling me something about my appearance that I know is false and which would make a normal person go look in the mirror to check.
This is frequent behavior from him. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. In my opinion this is a way to both reinforce the hierarchy by asserting control and dominance in the form of gaslighting or antagonizing because of the frequency at which this type of interaction occurs between me and my father when usually I have no ill will I simply start conversation or as questions .
Thanks
