Can lack of sleep cause me to have a flare up?
Hey! So i was diagnosed with GERD 2 years ago, in that time it has become increasingly difficult to get doctor appointments, so i want to ask here if this sounds like a trigger for a flare up instead of trying to see my doctor?
A while ago i realised that caffeine can make me have a bad flare up, i did go to the doctor because i couldnt tell if i was sick with something else or if it was the caffeine, they confirmed caffeine is most likely the cause.
The symptoms i get from a flare up after caffeine (i only have it after a certain amount of caffeine, the equivalent to 1 and a half cans of monster of caffeine) is severeeeee nausea, severe burning in my throat and the middle of my chest, tightening pain in my chest and stomach, and the feeling of being punched in the stomach, its like having a heart attack, heartburn and norovirus at once.
I have these exact symptoms from lack of sleep, but i dont mean all nighter lack of sleep, i mean sleeping 5 hours instead of 8 kinda thing. If i do a all nighter i have this flare up 100% of the time and i dont feel better for atleast 16 hours, usually 24. My abuela was sick recently and i stayed up all night worried, and i was so sick for 24 hours.
Does this sound like it could be connected to GERD? It seems like a bit of a weird symptom to me, especially when its so sensitive to the amount of sleep i get, if its not im gonna have to battle the NHS for a appointment to figure out what else is wrong with me. Does anyone else experience these symptoms? Is sleep a trigger for you?
Thanks!
