Why are some side characters killed off?
!I’ve been watching the live-action adaptation of One Piece and noticed that some characters seem to be killed off or treated as dead, even though they survive in the original Manga/Anime. For example, in the live-action version certain villains and side characters don’t always get the same outcomes they did in the anime or manga. In the original story by Eiichiro Oda, a lot of characters actually survive situations that look fatal. But the live-action seems a bit more willing to confirm deaths or remove characters from the story.
I’m curious why the showrunners chose to do this. Is it because: The live-action needs higher stakes for a general audience? It’s easier to simplify the story by removing characters who might not appear again for hundreds of chapters? Budget and screen time limitations? Or is it just a stylistic change to make the world feel more grounded?!<
