Elipson XLS 7, vintage look and spirit
I would like to share my feedback, subjective review on a nice contender in the legacy / heritage arena trusted by JBL & Wharfedale.
Elipson is a respected French HIFI designer.
Two years ago, I listened to the XLS 15, the 3 way great sister of the XLS 7, in an audio showroom. I was impressed by the sound performance and, to be honest, by the vintage design which reminded me the huge Philips floor standers my dad had in the 80s.
With that in mind, this year I blind ordered the (relatively, my wife said) small XLS 7.
My system is a simple Wiim Amp Pro connected to a TV set, I stream my music from Tidal in a 25 SQM untreated living room.
The built is very nice and the finish is gorgeous, which was important for my wife.
Soundwise, the first thing that comes mind is the fullness of the image and the large soundstage, something it shares with the XLS 15, which I doubted I will obtain at home with the XLS 7.
The presentation is clear, relaxed and dynamic.
They're forgiving on old recording, listening to Boby Womack soul years, there is nothing fatiguing, only emotion.
Same with live recordings.
Brass in Jazz are detailed but not brilliant.
Voices are a little forward, giving impression that the performance is in the room.
They accommodate modern music very well, I tried the latest James Blake album this morning, it sounded wonderful.
If you're in for vintage looking speakers that sounds good all around, are easy to drive, you definitely have to give a try to those
