Rain likelihood

Is it more likely to rain (or snow) on your island when it is IRL raining at your location? Is this just confirmation bias or is it actually increasing likelihood from a weather API? It’s been an unusually wet year and stormy today and I wanted to go somewhere fantasy sunny, and my island is gray and wet and lightning. I’m IRL equatorial northern hemisphere and my island is southern hemisphere.
