Sewing needles

I’m sewing my first pair of pants but I’m practicing on a flat bed sheet before I buy fabric. I just got the singer 4452. The fabric keeps getting pulled into the machine. I looked it up and saw that it might be the wrong needle. Does this really make that much of a difference? Please let me know if you have any tips. I’m kinda frustrated lol. Thank you!
