Discussion about game state
I started playing mtg trough arena recently and i'm kinda shocked and frustrated at the game state tbh. 90% of games are essentially over by turn 4 and are imo mostly decided by who top decks better. Either the decks ramp up exponentially form turn 1 or aim to effectivly mitigate all play until a one card knock out punch is casted on turn 4 or 5.
There is alot of stuff that breaks basic game principles, by that i mean mechanics that undermine the core gameplay, which is playing out cards. Discard decks and deadly cover-ups that quite literally won't let you play, which often times feels like taking away the dodge roll in a souls game for example. Then all the sweepers, mostly denying and build-up of a board state with creatures. But at the same time it's somewhat needed cause mono green is so powerfull that it can ramp up faster than an opponent can play answers. The spiderman deck does nothing until turn 4 and than it's game over mostly.
My point is, many games feel like all or nothing knock-out haymakers most of the time instead of a gradual and tactical build-up. The cool games where i really battled my opponent and needed to think and strategize are few inbetween. So i wonder if this is like a permanent state of the game or if it's just because of the current rotation of cards. Because i felt like i really wasn't having that much fun in most games even when winning.
