Medication fear, neuropathy, managing pain
Lately I've been questioning more and more the medication that I'm on due to the pain I believe is rooted in B12 deficiency. I have other options available but I am wary for a variety of reasons, notably how they may interfere with healing from injection treatment. I know SSRIs are specifically mentioned in the guide, I Can't help wondering what people are on to deal with their pain, that is considered relatively safe.
I'm currently on nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant often used for neuropathic pain. But the side effects have been very unkind to me and I'm more and more believing it's time to quit. Previously I was on massive amounts of pregabalin which I truly believe has massively exacerbated my condition due to how anticonvulsants interfere with folate and B12 uptake. I was not aware of this nor was my pain condition being treated or recognised as B12 related. I'm one of many doing this away from doctors.
The next thing I've been pointed towards is mirtazapine which is 'tetracyclic', and seems like a viable route but increases noradrenaline.. doesn't seem like a good idea as someone who suffers with migraines and cranial hypertension type symptoms. But it does seem like it could be less harmful in terms of side effects in other places.. It's so hard to know what to do. I don't want to take any of this stuff but my pain is so intense and difficult to manage, even on meds, let alone without.
What do you guys do to manage neuropathic pain?
