Is my floral budget unreasonable?
I’m having a micro wedding in 2027 at an outdoor garden venue, I specifically chose a venue that was already beautiful so I didn’t need to do as much decorating. We’ll be in a secluded garden space so won’t be needing lots more flowers for decoration/bouquets. We’re having a very understated simple wedding, I don’t see the point in having a huge overflowing bouquet and lots of decor for only 40 people to see.
Trying to find a florist has been a struggle, I did an online quote for one and filled out their questionnaire for how many bouquets and boutonnières I needed (1 bridal, 5 bridesmaids bouquets, 7 boutonnières) and was quoted $600. I contacted this florist to say that I was fine with this quote in theory but I wanted smaller bouquets, and they have very strict “recipes” they won’t adjust to be more minimal. These recipes are for huge bouquets, the smallest they offer is roughly the size of 2 soccer balls.
They told me I would be better off buying bulk flowers and doing it all myself when I asked if I could order smaller bouquets outside of the bridal packages. The packages also include table decor and other flowers, which I won’t be needing.
Using the quote this florist gave me as a reference I reached out to every other florist in the area I could find and filled out their questionnaires with a $700 budget, explaining in each one that I want very small, very minimal bouquets. It’s been 2 weeks and no other florist has responded to me.
Is my budget too small for what I’m asking or is it so small that I’m not worth their time? I’m not sure how to proceed from here.
For more information the only flower I specifically asked for is light blue delphinium, alongside any white flower (like a rose or carnation), and any filler. In my own bouquet I’d want maybe 4 large stems, in the smaller bouquets maybe 2-3. I thought $700 would be fine for this task seeing as it’s more than the first florist quoted for much more, but now I’m not sure if I’m being unreasonable with such a small budget.
