PSBBN Not Reading, Installing, or Booting PS1 games

Title says it all. PS2 games are just fine but PS1 games don't work and the Definitive Patch doesn't even recognize most of the games in the folder during the installation process. The ones that do install just reboots the system and brings me back to the PSBBN start. Anyone dealt with this issue or any ideas what could be causing it?
