Progress isn't linear and some days are just about not going backwards

Sharing: Philosophy & Mindset

Had a really good few weeks. Eating better, working out, getting things done, feeling like an actual functioning person for once. Then yesterday I spent the entire day in bed watching nothing and eating garbage. Felt like I'd erased all of it.

Woke up today genuinely angry at myself. All that progress, gone. Back to square one. Except I don't think that's actually how it works, it just feels that way.

One bad day doesn't undo weeks of good ones. I know this logically. But in the moment it's so easy to look at one slip and decide the whole thing is ruined so why even bother. That's the trap though. The all or nothing thinking where anything less than perfect consistency means failure.

Some days are growth days. Some days are just survival days. And I'm starting to think the survival days might matter more, because those are the days where going backwards is the easy option and choosing not to is its own kind of progress. Even if it doesn't look like anything from the outside. Even if all you did was not quit.

Not every day is going to be a highlight reel. Some days you just hold the line.
