Need advice- want to switch from H1b to J1

Hi everyone,

I am currently a 2nd year resident doctor on H1b visa in US and I am interested in switching to J1 visa for 3rd year and fellowship. I will returning to my home country after fellowship so J1 works out for me.

I have 2 main reasons to change my status, one is to have for more fellowship options and second, for my spouse to be able to work in US.

Currently my spouse is stuck because of non-availability of H4 appointments in India. I was initially going to switch to J1 for fellowship but now I want to do it now for PGY-3 so that my spouse can travel to US.

Do you think its safe to apply for this change of status?

Please advise if you think there are any grounds for visa refusal for me or my spouse?
