Finding it difficult to add more instruments to songs

[Question]

Hey guys, I'm a beginner to producing (loving it) when making a loop from scratch in session view I've really been struggling with adding more layers without it sounding worse.

Specifically things like guitar, bass, piano, synth, pretty much lead instruments. Usually I'll start of with a bass line or a melody on a synth or something, then add drums (which I feel quite confident with), then maybe one other instrument like a sax or something. It's usually at this point I'll hit a roadblock.

If ive got a melody I struggle to find a good bass, and vice versa, or if ive got both I struggle to add anything exciting beyond that. I'm not sure if it's just bad sounds, if maybe I need to lean into silence/space a bit more, use things more sparingly, or just simply practice more.

A lot of the time ill just accept the few tracks ive got and go to put them it into arrangement view where ill split them up and add effects, but then i'm left with roughly the same things repeating for a whole song, and you can feel that its missing something. I'm usually going for a jazz house vibe.

Sorry if this a bit of a ramble, just frustrated. any tips or advice appreciated thanks.
