Slightly worried about my acceptance

A classmate of mine told me last week that UCI tends to waitlist or reject those who are too qualified to attend. However, I got admitted today whilst my peers who are more competitive or just as competitive as me got waitlisted or rejected. Does this mean I am not good enough for higher tier UC or private schools? Thanks!
