Portfolio Size For MES
$500 for 1 MES?
Is this a good risk to reward?
I started trading futures this year and I’m break even all in all.
I turned $100 to $1800 trading 1 MES, then the majority of the gains were actually with MGC before the margins requirements doubled.
My strategy was never sell for a loss bc it’ll eventually go green if you bought well enough. This turns out to be a horrible idea lol.
I lost the $1800 trading the first 30 minutes of the Iran War news on market open that one Sunday gold gapped up and took it all back. I actually started trading with 2 contracts that day ( I know)
I realize I was putting on too much risk and got ahead of myself.
This is making me reevaluate my contract size. I understand I can no longer trade gold with anything under $3k.
What is your golden rule when trading MES? $500 per contract? $750?
I understand stop losses have to be set or else you can lose the entire $500 in 1 day if you just avoid selling.
Am I risking 20 points per trade? Market open on Wednesday for CPI fried my account since I bought the false breakout at 10AM. I got margin called like ten minutes later.
