Question about boomy sound coming through Sansamp Bass Driver DI v2

Hello!

Finally received this pedal today and only got to try it out for a bit, but noticed a boomy-ness to the sound as i was playing through it. The bass i was using has an active preamp but just a bass and treble boost/cut which I have both knobs set halfway between boost and cut. My only thought was since i was using the XLR output of the pedal, I didn't have the -20db switch engaged. Does that need to be on if using the XLR out? Sorry if dumb question, I just know I can get great tones with this thing, but assume I need to fiddle with it a bit first.
