Got into my top program

(US based, MS in math)

I can’t afford it💔 I know it’s not the smartest but I was totally fine with taking out the 42k to cover tuition and housing for this program due to the industry connections it offered. Unfortunately I forgot that grad student loans are capped at 20.5k now so I will not be going. At least I can say I got in.

The second program I got into is the same cost but because it’s two years instead of one, I can actually pay for it. I’m so annoyed. This program also said they have no funding for masters students right now, but might after they hear back from their PhDs.

I’ve wanted to go to grad school since before I started college and I’m very annoyed that it just happened to coincide with a bad time to go🫩

Just to add- please don’t try to talk me out of taking out loans. Obviously I’d love if it was funded, but ultimately I need to get a masters first (bad undergrad), so I’m just kind of playing the cards as they lay🥲
