New RX 9070 XT Freezing Constantly
Hello, I just upgraded my computer from a GTX 1060 6GB to a RX 9070 XT 16GB, and I've been experiencing nonstop freezing to the point that the computer is unusable.
I REALLY do not want to buy a new motherboard, because this one works perfectly fine with my GTX 1060 6GB as of 2 days ago.
I can't think of what else to do at this point, any help would be appreciated.
Symptoms
- Constant random permanent freezing.
- All displays freeze.
- Entire computer is completely unresponsive, no error messages, all sound stops.
- The computer fans will keep spinning but slowly ramp down over time.
- The ONLY way to recover is to hold down the power button until the pc powers off.
- Its more likely to happen when UNDER LOAD, but it WILL happen at IDLE, given enough time (sometimes as soon as 1 minute after start, sometimes hours).
- Before I did a clean install of windows, I was getting constant Green Screen of Deaths (GSOD) on my monitor that used HDMI, and Black Screen of Deaths (BSOD) on my monitor that was plugged in with a Display Port cable. This has gone away after a clean install (the GSODs at least. Now sometimes it will black screen a few seconds after a freeze).

What I have tried so far
Using DDU on my original Windows 11 installation
- I installed DDU, did not boot into safe mode, and removed my Nvidia drivers and shutdown.
- I installed the new drivers using AMDs Adrenaline software.
- It constantly gave me GSOD and BSOD crashes.
Clean install of Windows 11 using a USB
- I installed a clean Windows 11 using a USB created by another computer.
- I installed the new drivers using AMDs Adrenaline software.
- It stopped giving me GSOD and BSOD crashes, instead it will randomly freeze without going black.
- I was able to run 3dmark a few times without crashing immediately, it gave me scores about 100 points below the average for my hardware according to it.
- I was able to run Hitman 3 for a minute before crashing, the higher the settings the more likely it is to crash.
Letting Windows install its own drivers
- Using the clean install, I used DDU to remove the AMD drivers and restarted.
- I waited a minute for Windows to automatically install the drivers for the GPU.
- It installed driver version 32.0.22042.1 (Adrenaline 25.20.42) / Win11 64.
- It seemed to work better for a minute? When I turned on ray tracing in Hitman 3 it crashed again, but I believe it would have crashed anyway given time (It's always random).
