As a Soccer player and fan, the worst soccer related part of Alex's time on LiB was calling David Beckham "not even good".
Alex said and did so many basic f-boy things, that it seems to me like this blithely tossed dis at David Beckham, understandably, gets over-looked. For those that only know the Beckhams as celebrities, let me give you a super brief summary of why David even became famous in the first place.
Beckham played midfield (on the wing) for the two most renowned football clubs in the world, with the highest budgets at the time, consistently buying up the best, most expensive players in the world: Manchester United and Real Madrid. In Baseball terms, this is like coming up with the Dodgers, then signing over to the Yankees.
He played a position that rarely, if ever, gets the most attention or glory. He didn't score the most goals, but he scored more than anyone else at his position. His specialty was being one of the most extraordinary passers of his generation, among the greatest of all time. He was not flashy, hyper-focused on winning over all things.
Similar to Draymond Green of the NBA, he's the type of player that if you don't love the nuances of the game, and only focus on dribbling and scoring, you might think his fame was greater than his ability. Casual fans love to diminish and dismiss players like Green and Beckham as overrated and "not even good." Understanding what makes players like them so much better than their contemporaries and worthy of all-time-great status is a kind of litmus test for fans. And Alex failed.
Please don't take my word for it, here's a recent thread in the ManU sub talking about Beckham as a player.
Also, I don't want to dimish the many other ways Alex is awful, including calling Tim Howard (Probably the best USA goalie of all time, and famously a shining role model for kids with Tourrettes) a weirdo! Here's a recent thread in this sub rightfully calling Alex out for insulting Howard.
Thank you for taking the time to read my (a little bit silly, but also deathly serious) post. Hopefully, I've helped you learn one more thing you can hate Alex for!
