Is it just me or you don't like a lack of authenticity?.
What I mean by that is, if I'm seeing an old tv broadcast on a tv that it was meant to be viewed on, that doesn't mean it feels right to watch, usually because it's been digitally enhanced to be viewed on a more modern screen. Sometimes there would be black horizontal bars which wouldn't be a problem on newer tvs but depending on how the program was recorded would either be present or not on crts and if it is, it's very annoying. I remember being very annoyed when I was watching an old footy match that was digitally enhanced and had the black bars on there and it looked absolutely shit on the crt that I was viewing it on.
In comparison, if you search for any sports broadcasts that was taken directly from a vhs cassette or similar format, and uploaded to youtube directly from that recording, which would've been recorded on the day that broadcast was live, and very much has the usual artefacts you get from an old video recording, and take that and view it on a newer tv, it would look pretty shit, but if you take it and view it on a crt, it would geniunely look like that broadcast was actually live, even though it happened a very long time ago, and every time I try this it blows my balls off every single time because of how fucking good it looks.
With my special interest being retro games and computers, I always go for authenticity, for example, to dial into bbses or the general internet on a retro computer most people would opt for one of those wifi thingy whingies that would plug into the serial port, where a modem would go and it would be sort of a replacement, in a way. That doesn't interest me. I opt for actual modems because I know that's how people went online back then. I even get my games in commercial form, instead of going the piracy route, and yes, even that includes the amiga, the platform that is probably the most prolific in the piracy scene, both back then and probably now as well.
Even now I still feel frustrated when I see an old recording on an old tv that it was meant to be viewed on but it was digitally enhanced in a way that it just looks shit. One time I took another sports recording that had been digitally enhanced for a dvd compilation, and recorded it to a blank tape I had lying around and when I viewed it it still didn't look right.
But yeah I wanna know if it's just a unique obsession or is this something you have. None of the flairs have anything to do with the post so I just did the eenie meenie miney mo game since the mods got rid of the infodump flair.
