AGL vs. Private: The trade-off between Fees and Cash Flow
Since the policy change in early 2024,The "Inbound Placement Fee" has a significant impact on the cost structure of sellers. It feels like Many buyers use AGL, split into 5+ locations, and pay $0 in placement fees.
But as someone watching this from the logistics side in China, I think many sellers are overlooking the real cost of that $0 fee.
It’s basically a trade-off between Fees and Cash Flow:
Choose AGL Route**:** You save the fee, but you’re forced into a 5-way split. This will lead to various cost issues such as disorderly distribution at the factory, incorrect labels, and high domestic express shipping fees.
Choose Private Route: You might pay a placement fee, but if you’re using a forwarder with fixed-schedule vessels and their own US-west warehouses, you can often get your inventory live faster than AGL.
The Interesting Part: I’ve recently come across some private channels that are now managing to offer $0 placement fees while keeping that 48-hour check-in speed. It seems the "Private vs. AGL" gap is closing faster than people think.
How are you guys handling the math this year? Are you still grinding through the 5-way splits, or is the cash flow from faster shipping winning out for you?
