Am I the only one who hated the way the anime portrayed Ayanokoji?

SpoilerAnime

Man, it’s the anime’s fault that Ayanokoji has such a terrible reputation outside the community.

They made it seem like his personality was that of an emo kid who likes to act cold and emotionless because he thinks it’s cool.

He doesn’t act that way to look cool, but BECAUSE OF HIS PAST.

Honestly, I think there were better ways to portray him than that.

Instead of presenting him as an emo in the early seasons, they could have done the following:

They could keep Ayanokoji’s expressionless face, because that’s part of who he is. But despite that, I think they could have shown more of his clumsy and weird side—weird in the sense that: You know that type of student in class who you know is weird, but it’s that weirdness that makes him funny? He could be something like that.

While outwardly he showed no reaction, internally his thoughts could be more expressive and cynical to make things more entertaining and give the impression that he’s just an ordinary student among everyone else in this series.

During this time, the humor would come from simply seeing what he was thinking, because each thought would be a different gem to make us laugh or feel curious. If they wanted, they could even create an imaginary representation of his thoughts; for example, if he were angry, his miniature figure could appear on screen and cross his arms in irritation—this imaginary figure, drawn in black and white, would simply represent his thoughts (If the idea of the figure doesn’t work, then I apologize; I take back what I said).

Then, when he were to demonstrate his intelligence, we’d be surprised, because no one would expect someone who only thinks about nonsense to possess such intelligence, and we’d want to see just how far this goes. And when it reached the climax—which is the final part of the series’ first season— the camera focuses on Ayanokoji’s face while Horikita thanks him in that scene, but when he goes to speak, that imaginary puppet wouldn’t appear anymore (or his inner voice wouldn’t be the same as before)—it would be HIS OWN VOICE that comes out, because when he delivers his monologue about how everyone is just a part of a play and blah blah blah

That would be a huge plot twist! And symbolic, because, just like in the light novel, he made us believe he was an ordinary student, but in reality, he tricked you right along the way in the anime, just as everyone who read the light novel was also tricked.

I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while. I think doing it this way would help reduce the bad reputation he has.

What did you guys think? What’s your opinion on this?
