I loved the stranger things finale.! My thoughts..
Stranger things finale thoughts
Okay.. here we go. Coz the storytelling was just that good.
Only talking about the last episode and mostly the “epilogue”.
This one was phenomenal story telling and I’ll stand by it.
I think sci fi films usually tend to try to go for the shock value. Or like a twist. Or like a character coming back from the dead and leaving it open ended like the totem in inception (which is also pretty solid).
But this one HIT.! (For me)
Most often when stories like this end abruptly at the battle we don’t get to see what happened to the characters.
But you also don’t want too much definite story line to the characters and tell us exactly how they end up. like how Harry Potter epilogue did. (And that epilogue is horrendous, let’s be real.)
I like how they left it open ended.!
this one gave real emotions. This is what real people feel like. Like after a war. After going through something together. Trauma bond.
The awkward let’s meet every month among the 4 - robin, Steve, Nancy and jhonnatan felt soo real. Like that’s how best friends who move away from school or college feels like.
Dustin’s Val speech was out of this world. Great tribute to the hellfire club and Eddie.
The final D&D game and the symbolism and the story telling that mirrors the first scene. Wow.!!
This is just the second half of the episode.
The first half of the battle was also amazing.
The one scene I wish had more screen time was when Henry revisits that memory in the cave. Wanted him there for longer . Almost fighting it. But then landing back we are ONE.! It would’ve hit heavier. Only gripe.
Rest of it. Wonderful.!!!!!!
D&D mirroring episode 1.
And also it being stand alone and story telling through it.
And max asking the question for us audience.
Wait is that it. Comfort and happiness. I thought you were master story tellers.
And Mike is duffer brothers in his speech next. Explaining it all through D&D.
This was beautifully done. It landed for me!
Especially coz it’s soooo tough to wrap up such a big intricate story line. I love the choice they made to make it land emotionally. It’s all about these characters. And not the actually science behind the whole thing.
The other choice could have more explanation of the lore behind mind flayer.
But it’s never about the campaign and it’s always about the party.!
It’s these characters that we are bonded over. And these characters and their journey together and individually is where this ends.! 💛
