Why hasn’t my shop upgraded?

I restarted my island last year back in July. I’ve spent more than 300k bells on my island and definitely sold way more too. Does time traveling prevent the upgrade from happening? 😭 I used to time travel to help make some money with turnips but have enough bells now to where I haven’t needed to travel forward in months. I can’t find a clear answer on what’s going on
