Night 20: I was hoping to have written a success story by now…

4 - 6 months

I am on night 20 of sleep training and she is still crying for 12+ minutes each night. I have been journaling each bedtime/night and I track her sleep like a hawk on huckleberry. There has only been 5 nights where she cried for ~5 minutes. I am doing CIO and I thought for sure by two weeks she would be doing better by now.

We co-slept prior to sleep training, she never was rocked to sleep. Just had a really strong feed to sleep association so I always make sure to feed at least 30 minutes prior to bedtime routine. Our bedtime routine is jammies- book- sound machine- prayer- sleep sack- crib. We switch around who puts her to bed but she usually cries when we start putting her jammies on, will calm for the book, and then is full on tears by the prayer.

Bedtime was 8-8:30 but after daylight savings I moved it up to 7/7:30 and we wake up at 6am each day. I wake her up each morning right at 6, never later than 6:20. I also wake her up from most naps.

Wake windows are age appropriate (5m old, will be 6m next week) and I always make sure she has at least 10 hours of awake time. She usually has around 10.5-11h. Her naps are untrained and still contact, capped at 3.5 hours. She usually sleeps 2.5-3 most days. Typically ww are 2/2.5/2.5/3. Somedays its 2/2/3/3. The first wake window is a fight to keep her awake for 2 hours. She is hysterical by the time for the first nap of the day. I cannot set her down after an hour into the first ww or it is immediate tears and red face.

I have tried keeping her awake longer- no change and will rally about an hour after going to sleep. Put her to bed sooner- no change. We aren’t having any issues with night wakes. She feeds 1-2 times a night and settles back just fine.

What can I do? Is this normal? Am I being unreasonable thinking she should just turn over and fall asleep by now?
