Kobo and Kindle, advice?

I started as a Kindle user and wanting to move away from Amazon I bought a Kobo Libra Color. Love it. Love not being tied to Amazon.

But I have noticed a major difference and am looking for advice.

I was tandem reading Empire of Storms (on Kobo) and Tower of Dawn (on Kindle). It was a great way to read the books and to see how each ereader performed. I have the entire series as on long book on both.

I am underwhelmed with my Kobo. The lag time in changing chapters is stark. The kindle will change the page without slowing down, the kobo is so slow. Would anyone happen to know why that is and if there is a fix for that?

Also, the kobo battery life... ugh. I had to charge my kobo 3 times while reading Empire of Storms, the kindle I just charged at the beginning and it is still at 47%. The brightness settings are about the same on both.

I want to use my Kobo, but these things are just frustrating.

I would love to know if there is something I can do about this or if it is just the way it is.
