Isata Kanneh-Mason Rach 3 (BBC Scottish Symphony, Delyana Lazarova)

just saw it on youtube, man I gotta say I was NOT impressed. she did fine but it often felt pretty pedestrian to me. I never really got into the flow that I long for whenever I listen to Rachmaninov.

am I the only one who feels like Kanneh-Mason is recently taking some swings too big for her bat? don't get me wrong she's obviously a very skilled pianist (worlds better than I could ever be no matter how I tried, of course). but I have heard her play less ambitious programs and I really admired her musicality and expression. this just seemed like biting off more than frankly, IMO, she could comfortably chew.
