Has anyone’s milk supply drastically dipped for no apparent reason? (And was able to get it back?)
Someone talk me off a cliff here! I’m so sad, I will be devastated if this is the end of my ebf journey.
We had a tough start, my son (14 weeks now) had a very severe tongue tie. We got it clipped at 5 days old and used the nipple shield. I continued to use the nipple shield for ease and as a sensory thing. About a week ago he decided he was done with the shield. His feeds cut down from 35ish minutes to 25 and I figured he was just feeding more efficiently now that the shield was out of the picture.
Yesterday he was extremely fussy at the breast, constantly latching and unlatching. Then when I did my usual pump after I put him down, I got maybe half an ounce total (I usually get 4.5-6). He fed normally at his night wake up and his morning feed. The rest of his feeds today have been mayhem, constantly latching and getting frustrated. I decided to do a weighted feed and it wouldn’t even register that he got any milk so I had to dip into my freezer stash. I decided to pump after every feed and I’m just getting around .5 oz between both breasts.
Has this happened to anyone? Did your supply come back? How did you do it? How long did it take?
I’ve been chugging water, making sure I eat enough, lactation cookies, electrolytes, Oreos, oatmeal cream pie, and am about to start a 60 min power pump.
