*Crimson Desert* is an upcoming action-adventure title developed by Pearl Abyss using the studio’s proprietary BlackSpace Engine. The developer has shared extensive technical details about the game’s rendering systems and platform support ahead of release.

The lighting system uses ray tracing and surfel-based radiance caches to simulate global illumination, combining directional lighting, sky lighting, and sampled local lights. Ray tracing is applied per pixel with limited rays depending on quality settings, while radiance caches and denoising techniques help reduce noise and approximate multiple light bounces.

Most world objects—including terrain, buildings, characters, and trees—are included in the ray-tracing acceleration structure within a distance of roughly 100–150 meters, while distant elements are represented using signed distance fields up to about two kilometers.

The game features advanced rendering techniques such as mesh shaders, multi-layered shadow maps, particle-based water simulation, and distant tree imposters for large environments.

At launch, the PC version supports AMD FSR 3/4 and Nvidia DLSS 4/4.5, including frame generation, while consoles support FSR and PlayStation’s PSSR on PS5 Pro.
