Is there a reason why TV shows have jerks in them and is there a reason why video games are difficult?

I ask this because I don't know why a lot of cartoons can have jerks in them and I don't know why so many video games are so difficult like Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. I've died multiple times in them and gotten game overs multiple times too.
