0083 Stardust Memory Episode 2
Is one of the single best episodes of Gundam I’ve watched yet. This episode oozes vibes, philosophy and art.
One of the first scenes that got me was when Uraki is talking to his direct before attacking the space shuttle. Uraki tells his direct he essentially has no idea what he’s doing and he’s nervous about. His direct tells him “that’s why I’m here” with this positive and encouraging smirk. Sometimes I feel the way Uraki felt in real life; confused and nervous. That’s when it’s nice to have someone like Uraki’s direct. Someone whose been there before and desires to share their knowledge and experience for your betterment (or life for Uraki).
The next scene that made me take a pause is when Uraki is talking to Gato after taking out the Zeon shuttle. Gato hits Uraki with this winded but thought-provoking speech about why he’s trying to accomplish his mission; to bring freedom for all spacenoids. Uraki responds in the most clueless manner, as if he couldn’t “feel” over even understand on a basic level what Gato is saying. Uraki even questions the “freedom” Gato is talking about. Uraki chastises Gato for his speech then Gato tears him a new one for being so oblivious to life. Uraki clearly realizes he’s talking to someone far above him and immediately starts treating Gato as if he’s his own superior officer. Then Gato exposes him fully by turning on Uraki’s light to help him remember that he’s the enemy. This scene got such a chuckle out of me!
0083 feels so…HEAVY. From getting to see a Gundam’s heavy artillery loaded to the heavy stomps of the mechas, this shit is HEAVY. Not necessarily emotionally (though RIP to the dude with the headband in the Zaku who got the mercy shot, I thought he was definitely going to live longer, lol) but heavy in a weighty sense. Where 0080 was emotionally heavy 0083 is very physically heavy.
I shouldn’t have ever watched those damn Gundam 0079 movies. Now I’m a full blown addict!
