Admitted for PhD Theological Studies at U of Toronto!

Humanities

^(I got admitted for a PhD at Toronto School of Theology (TST) affiliated with University of Toronto to start this Fall 2026. The thing is that I got only about a half the tuition support for the international student rate, which is I am. That is it I got.)

^(I think the thing is that there is no possibility that I can get any other support from the University of Toronto because TST operates its own separately from UT.)

While this is the only PhD program I have applied and it is my ideal place to be, I would imagine the prestige would be much less during and after the graduation when I need to find teaching/research jobs in Theology and Religious Studies.

I just wonder if anyone has been accepted and what your thoughts are in terms of the academic rigors, comparing with other similar programs in the US. I know Canada PhD is more like hitting ground in research from day 1 and they don't quite let you take courses for years and teach a lot to prepare your academics well further like what they do in the US. Would it be a big disadvantage for a skill building and competitiveness upon graduation for a job search? Do you think the financial package here is alright enough to be able to manage to juggle through with work on the campus and then cover the fees and living expenses? What job situation is like for an international to teach Theology in Canada? Would it be possible to apply for jobs in Sociology, Anthropology, Politics, Religion, Regional Studies departments in Canada? I hope to apply for PR in Canada as well.

Thanks so much in advance for any thoughts and suggestions. Hoping all good news come to you sooner or later.
