The Second Era — The Second World of One Piece

Author: Jueypov (จึ๊ยโป๋วว)

Introduction

The Second Era is the second chapter of the One Piece Ending Theory.

It is constructed by assembling all available clues (emphasis on all) into a single unified picture.

This results in a Grand Theory that explains the entire storyline of One Piece, from the origin of events to the ending where Monkey D. Luffy becomes the Pirate King.

The content of the Second Era is divided into two parts:

Main Section — The overall narrative

Secondary Section — Supporting details

Because the clues related to the Second Era are numerous and scattered, yet incomplete.

In other words, the story can be reconstructed in terms of narrative fragments, but the exact process of events cannot be completely sealed or confirmed.

The missing parts go beyond available evidence; pushing further would become speculation.

---

Key Terms

Second Era

The second age of the One Piece world, currently referred to as the Void Century, approximately 800–700 years before the present time.

---

Full Moon People

Descendants of the Earth People who migrated to the Moon and established the kingdom of Birka.

They are the only group that still preserves advanced technology from the First Era.

---

One Piece People

Descendants of Earth People who survived on Earth and scattered across islands.

They are divided into two groups:

Human — the main population of the One Piece world

Dehuman — semi-human races that evolved to survive environmental changes after the Post-Apocalyptic events

These groups were the most affected by the environmental transformation.

---

Half Moon People

A group formed through cooperation between One Piece People and Full Moon People.

Their ideology was to restore the world of the First Era.

Their symbol is a half-moon shape resembling the letter “D”, which later caused them to be called the D Clan, or the Crescent Moon Clan.

(This naming concept is referenced from the Second Era described in the Harley Scriptures.)

---

D. Plan

The plan of the D Clan to restore the continents and advanced knowledge of the First Era, using the Three Ancient Weapons.

Later, the D Plan was secretly passed down through the Will of D.

---

Ancient Weapons

Devices created by the Half Moon People to restore the continents and lost technology of the First Era.

---

The First Twenty

A coalition of 20 kingdoms that united to overthrow the D Clan.

This conflict led to the Great War.

After their victory, they established themselves as the Celestial Dragons.

---

The Great War

The war between the D Clan and the Twenty Kingdoms during the Second Era.

---

Main Section — Overview of Events

The Second Era begins on the Moon.

The kingdom of Birka, powered by the advanced technology of the Moon People, began to collapse due to energy shortages.

As a result, the Moon People were forced to return to Earth—the original homeland their ancestors had left more than 2,000 years earlier.

Upon returning, they discovered the One Piece People, distant relatives descended from the same Earth People lineage.

However, these Earth survivors had become technologically primitive and were suffering from the harsh environmental conditions caused by the Post-Apocalyptic world.

Some of the One Piece People learned the truth about the First Era.

This inspired an ideology to restore the Golden Age, the lost continents, and the advanced knowledge destroyed by the apocalyptic events.

They therefore allied with the Moon People and formed a new faction called the Half Moon People.

Their symbol was the half moon "D", and they later became known as the D Clan.

---

Using the remaining advanced knowledge preserved by the Moon People from the First Era, the D Clan created the D Plan.

This plan involved constructing three Ancient Weapons to restore the lost continents and free the world's population from the suffering caused by the Post-Apocalyptic world.

However, for unknown reasons, a group of One Piece People belonging to the Human faction formed the First Twenty Kingdoms.

These kingdoms united and defeated the D Clan, triggering the Great War.

---

After the War

Following their victory, the First Twenty Kingdoms established themselves as the Celestial Dragons.

They portrayed themselves as heroes who saved the world.

They then created a new global political system:

a kingless governance structure

managed through the Reverie council

overseen by the World Government

Later in the story, a mysterious figure appears at the very top of the throne:

Imu

This figure secretly controls the world behind the scenes through systems referred to as:

The Shallow Sea Covenant

The Deep Sea Covenant

(The detailed intentions of Imu will be discussed in the secondary section.)

---

Meanwhile, the surviving members of the D Clan scattered across the world.

The Three Ancient Weapons disappeared, but the D Plan continued to be secretly passed down through the Will of D, recorded on Poneglyph stones.

---

Secondary Section — Detailed Content

The Return of the Moon People

Clues about the Moon People's return to Earth appear in the cover story of

Enel

Key hints include:

the Moon Kingdom losing its energy source

mural paintings on the Moon

cover page text stating:

“Due to lack of resources, they traveled to the blue planet.”

---

Formation of the D Alliance (Half Moon Clan)

The alliance of the D Clan was led by five central figures, representing a cosmological concept.

These five figures were:

  1. Sun God Nika — Joy Boy — Sun

  2. Moon People — Birka — Moon

  3. Nefertari D. Lily — Alabasta — Earth

  4. The First Mermaid Queen — Ryugu Kingdom — Sea

  5. A mysterious Skypiean — Skypiea — Sky

Together they represent the cosmic elements:

Sun

Moon

Earth

Sea

Sky

Additional allied groups included:

Wano

Mink Tribe

Many of these allies belonged to Dehuman races, which suffered the most from the Post-Apocalyptic world.

---

D Plan Theory

The D Plan Theory originates from assembling many elements of the One Piece world, including:

myths such as Fairy Vearth

the sunken continent

the All Blue ocean

the nature of the Red Line

the Three Ancient Weapons

the living conditions of people in the One Piece world

The key element that completed the D Plan theory was the existence of Noah's Ark.

---

By combining the following clues:

the sunken continent

difficulty of navigation and limited resources

the Red Line blocking the world

Madame Shyarly's prophecy

the symbolism of the Sun God Nika

Mary Geoise

the All Blue

Pluton’s destructive power

Poseidon’s control of Sea Kings

the Noah Ark legend

the First Era described in the Harley Scriptures

A theory emerges:

During the Apocalyptic Events of the First Era, a natural mechanism caused by massive earthquakes created the Red Line, which prevented global sea levels from returning to normal after the flooding that submerged the continents.

Therefore, the D Clan intended to destroy the Red Line using the warship Pluton.

This would restore the natural balance of the oceans and lower sea levels, allowing the ancient continents and Forbidden Sun mineral deposits to re-emerge.

This would restore both civilization and technology.

However, destroying the Red Line would trigger a second global flood.

Thus the D Clan needed:

Poseidon to control Sea Kings

Noah's Ark to transport people safely during the disaster

The final step of the D Plan involves the flying weapon Uranus.

However, clues about Uranus are extremely limited, making its precise role uncertain.

---

• The Three Ancient Weapons

Beyond their role in the D. Plan, the three Ancient Weapons also carry many stories that can be reconstructed from various clues.

The D. Plan could never be carried out by a single individual.

Therefore, the D. Clan needed three holders of the Ancient Weapons.

These three holders represent the three pillars of the D. Clan, consisting of:

Nefertari D. Lily — Pluton — the Earth

The first Mermaid Queen — Poseidon — the Sea

The people of Skypiea — Uranus — the Sky

This structure follows the concept of the three Ancient Weapons, whose names are derived from the three Greek gods.

If we look back at the moon wall paintings, the three individuals depicted there are surrounded by the three Ancient Weapons as well:

The giant flying ship Uranus — upper left

Sea Kings pulling the Noah — right side

The giant warship Pluton — lower left

---

• The Energy Source of the Ancient Weapons

The effectiveness of any technology depends on its energy source, and the Ancient Weapons are no exception.

This also explains why, for more than 700 years, Imu possessed Uranus but was unable to activate it, until the arrival of the Mother Flame, developed by Dr. Vegapunk during the Third Era.

The important question is:

If Mother Flame is an energy technology developed in the Third Era, then what served as the energy source for the Ancient Weapons during the Second Era?

The answer is:

Devil Fruits

For example:

Pluton (the giant warship)

Technology: Steam machinery

Power source: Mera Mera no Mi (Flame Fruit)

Poseidon (the Sea King ruler)

Technology: Living labor

Power source: Psychic control over Sea Kings

Uranus (the giant flying ship)

Technology: Electrical engineering

Power source: Goro Goro no Mi (Lightning Fruit)

The origins of this Ancient Weapon Power Theory will be discussed further in the next section.

---

• The Journey of the Ancient Weapons After the Holy War

In the current storyline of the manga, the locations of all three Ancient Weapons have already been revealed.

Pluton

Hidden beneath the ancient city underwater in Wano Country

Poseidon

Princess Shirahoshi of the Ryugu Kingdom

Uranus

In the possession of Imu at Mary Geoise

The theories regarding:

the weapon holders

the figures in the moon wall paintings

and the energy sources

are all derived from assembling the following clues.

---

• The Journey of Uranus

Based on the clues currently related to Uranus:

It is a flying ship

Its concept comes from Uranus, the sky god of Greek mythology

It requires an energy source to operate

Whenever Ancient Weapons are mentioned, three locations often appear:

Alabasta

Ryugu Kingdom

Skypiea

The three figures in the moon wall painting

The discovery of the Goro Goro no Mi

Enel’s creation of the Maxim

From these clues, the following hypothesis can be formed:

After the Second Era, when the D. Clan lost the war, the Sky Pillar of the D. Clan took:

the blueprints of Uranus

and the Goro Goro no Mi, its power source

and hid them in Skypiea, the island in the sky.

Later, in the Third Era, God Enel accidentally discovered this hidden site.

He then:

ate the Goro Goro no Mi

used the blueprints of Uranus to modify and create the Ark Maxim

which he used to travel to the Moon using lightning energy.

---

The Origin of Fairy Vearth

This reconstruction also suggests something interesting.

The legendary land Fairy Vearth, which the Skypieans long for, may have originated from the D. Plan of the Second Era.

Over time, the original meaning of D. Plan — a plan to restore the land beneath the sea — became distorted as it was passed down through generations among the Skypieans.

Eventually it turned into nothing more than the legend of Fairy Vearth.

Since Enel only discovered the blueprints and the lightning fruit, but knew nothing about the D. Plan, he assumed that reaching Fairy Vearth required a flying ship, and concluded that Fairy Vearth must be the Moon.

This further supports the hypothesis that the Skypeans were allies of the Half Moon People, or the D. Clan.

It also explains why God Enel, living in the relatively low-tech world of One Piece, possessed blueprints for such an advanced flying vessel, even though Skypieans normally rely on Dials.

---

• The Journey of Pluton

From the clues:

Lily was a member of the D. Clan, yet Alabasta became one of the First Twenty Kingdoms

Information about Lily in Alabasta was erased

The moon wall painting showing the D pillars and Ancient Weapons

Pluton, inspired by the god of the underworld (earth), was first mentioned in the Alabasta Poneglyph, yet it is hidden in Wano

Lily scattered the Poneglyphs, while the people of Wano created them

This leads to the following hypothesis:

After The Great War, when the D. Clan was defeated, Nefertari D. Lily, who possessed Pluton, erased records of her existence to protect the people of Alabasta.

She abdicated the throne and allowed her younger brother to join the First Twenty Kingdoms.

Meanwhile, Lily herself traveled with Pluton to Wano Country, an ally of the Half Moon People, in order to hide the giant warship.

She ordered the people of Wano to carve the story of the D. Plan onto the Poneglyphs, passing it down as the Will of D until the present day.

This was meant to wait for someone who would eventually carry on the Will of D.

Afterward, Lily disappeared mysteriously.

(Some clues suggest a possible connection between Lily’s disappearance and Amazon Lily, the isolated female kingdom in the Calm Belt, a place difficult for the World Government to reach.)

This event is recorded in the Second World of the Harley Text, in the line:

“The surviving shadow listens to the voice of the crescent moon.”

This explains why Pluton, which should have remained within the Nefertari family of Alabasta, was instead hidden in Wano Country.

The method Lily used to scatter the Poneglyphs and move Pluton remains a mystery, possibly related to her own abilities.

---

The True Form of Pluton

If we analyze the Pluton depicted in the moon mural, it is possible that the “giant warship” is actually a tracked tank vehicle.

Such a vehicle would be suitable for traveling across deserts.

However, since the people of the One Piece world primarily use ships as their main means of transportation, they might simply call this unknown vehicle a “giant warship.”

---

The Role of Vivi

During the Reverie arc, Nefertari Vivi, Lily’s descendant, is forced to leave Alabasta.

This could represent the fate of the successor of the Will of D, leading Vivi toward the same path Lily once walked—toward Wano and the activation of Pluton.

---

Pluton’s Possible Energy Source

The idea that Pluton is powered by the Flame Fruit comes from several clues:

  1. Tom’s Sea Train may have been inspired by the Pluton blueprints passed down among shipwrights.

  2. The recurring fateful connection between Flame users and Alabasta, such as:

Ace’s first appearance in Alabasta

Vivi’s current connection with Sabo

  1. The conceptual order of technological development:

Labor → Fire (Steam) → Electricity

which aligns with Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus.

---

• Poseidon and the Noah

Among the Ancient Weapons, Poseidon has the most complete set of clues.

It has:

a clear owner

a prophecy

and the Noah

Many people focus on the promise between Joy Boy and Poseidon.

But the most interesting point is actually the technology behind Poseidon.

Unlike Pluton and Uranus, which appear to be mechanical technologies, Poseidon is a power embedded within a living being.

This implies that the technology of the D. Clan had reached the level of biotechnology, capable of modifying the genetic structure of living beings to grant special powers.

This clue directly connects to the next theory:

---

• The Origin of Devil Fruits

In Chapter 2 of the Harley Text, there is a line that states:

“The Forest God bestows demons.”

This most likely refers to the creation of Devil Fruits.

This suggests that Devil Fruits were not originally part of the One Piece world, but were instead created during the Second Era (the Void Century).

Considering:

the biotechnology of the D. Clan

Vegapunk’s ability to replicate Devil Fruits

and Caesar’s artificial fruits

it is highly possible that Devil Fruits were originally created by the Half Moon People — the D. Clan, using technology inherited from the First Era.

---

• The Purpose of Devil Fruits

The next question is:

Why were Devil Fruits created?

The D. Plan was a massive plan capable of reshaping the geography of the entire world, which would likely cause a global flood after the destruction of the Red Line.

Considering the clue that Devil Fruits are weak to water, the following hypothesis can be formed:

Devil Fruits were actually a backup plan in case the D. Plan failed.

If a global flood occurred and civilization was destroyed, the D. Clan had already copied the genetic structures of all living beings and stored them within Devil Fruits.

The weakness to water acts as a mechanism to detect sea levels:

Water contact → Flooded world → Powers disabled → Fruits reincarnate repeatedly until water levels fall.

In that scenario, the ones who would restore civilization would likely be the Fish-men, since they are not affected by the flood.

With the help of Paramecia-type Devil Fruits, they could accelerate the reconstruction of civilization.

---

Since this explanation is already quite long, the story of:

The Holy War

The First Twenty Kingdoms

and the birth of Imu

will be explained in the next post.
