working in fertility
I (24F) am 20 weeks today and actually very excited for the next few months of pregnancy even though life has thrown me some crazy curveballs this past year. Unfortunately I was extremely sick the first trimester so I wasn’t able to do much or even enjoy the first 14 weeks and because of that I kept the pregnancy from a lot of people in my life. Closer to week 15 I was finally able to tell friends and family but I didn’t want to share with my colleagues because I work at a fertility clinic with mostly women and things like that get around the office FAST. Aside from the fact that I don’t want this to just be the new hot goss at work a lot of my coworkers are close to our patients. The patients that are dealing with infertility… Now don’t get me wrong not everyone that comes through our clinic is bitter towards pregnant women but it’s such a vulnerable situation and I almost feel bad for being around them pregnant. I’ve had some patients in the past express to me how unhappy they are finding out their family member, friend, or another patient in the clinic is pregnant. Idk I just feel like I can’t be excited about my pregnancy at work especially as I get bigger. I don’t speak about it at all but I’m pretty petite so I can’t hide it forever I feel like the last two months at work before MAT leave is going to be so awkward. Not to mention I’m huge on the evil eye. I just don’t know how to navigate such a niche situation.
